Health Benefits of Aronia Berries -

Anti-inflammation:   Aronia berries are loaded with antioxidants which reduce inflammation in the body with many positive effects.  Aronia contains high levels of compounds which have great medicinal value (anthocyanins, proanthocyanins, flavonols, and phenolic acids).

Antiviral properties: Studies have demonstrated Aronia berries are effective in fighting against influenza and other viruses.

Antibacterial: Aronia has been shown to have direct anti-microbial activity against some food pathogens.  Aronia berries can also help prevent urinary tract infections.

Cardiovascular Health: Studies indicate aronia improves biomarkers associated with heart disease risk and markers associated with vascular function.  Aronia reduced blood pressure and LDL cholesterol in healthy former smokers.  Aronia was also shown to inhibit weight gain.

Diabetes: Aronia berries may reduce insulin resistance.  Adults with type 2 diabetes reported improvement in glycemic control with decreased fasting blood glucose.

Protects kidneys: Aronia berries protect the kidneys from damage in two ways: by protecting kidney cells from oxidative stress and by regulating blood pressure levels.

Cancer Prevention: Studies have suggested that aronia can inhibit multiple cancer mechanisms in vitro.  They also demonstrated effectiveness against live cancer cell growth, adhesion, migration and metastasis and inhibits cancer stem cell formation.

Neuroprotection:  Aronia has demonstrated neuroprotective effects.  Intake of flavonoid rich foods (such as aronia) helped maintain cognitive function in US men and Women.

Colitis:  Aronia inhibits intestinal inflammation, promotes intestinal barrier function and may be protective against colitis.  Aronia decreased lesion extension, adhesion score and the colon wall’s thickening score.
